assistant coach Collins Omondi ‘Korea’ insists his side was unlucky to suffer a heartbreaking defeat to in the dying moments of their league clash at Dandora Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
’s stoppage-time winner handed K’Ogalo all three points, condemning Posta Rangers to another painful defeat that keeps them anchored at the bottom of the Premier League table.
The loss left head coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ so frustrated that he delegated media duties to his assistant.
Alphonce Omija's stoppage time goal gave Gor Mahia a dramatic 2-1 win over Posta Rangers to take the pressure off head coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno.
The tightly contested match saw Gor Mahia take the lead in the 73rd minute through super-sub Gedeon Bendeka, but Posta Rangers responded in the 84th minute when Felix Oluoch found the equalizer.
Just as the Mailmen thought they had secured a crucial point, for Gor Mahia.
Korea remains adamant that Posta Rangers did not deserve to lose, especially considering how they matched up against a Gor Mahia side that had rotated heavily and was missing key players such as Austin Odhiambo and Ronney Onyango.
“We should not have lost based on how we set up in both halves because we played competitively,” Korea asserted to the media after the match.
“We conceded in the second half, equalised, and then lost in the dying minutes, which is very painful. To be honest, we should have taken at least a point from that game.”
Despite the defeat, Korea took positives from Posta Rangers’ performance, highlighting their defensive compactness and efficiency in counter-attacking situations. However, he acknowledged that a lack of decisiveness in the final third cost them crucial opportunities to secure a better result.
“There are promising signs, and you can see it. We are scoring goals but also conceding, and if we can find a way to strike a balance, we will be in a good place,” he noted.
Gor Mahia is set to appoint a new head coach with an experienced candidate emerging as a top contender for the role.
“If you look at the game, it was 50/50. I cannot say they dominated us. Their fans were also happy, relieved, and celebrated as if they had won the trophy. That alone shows it was not an easy game and proves that we are not pushovers in this league.”
Under Omollo’s leadership, Posta Rangers have played four matches, winning once and losing three times. Their campaign began with a 3-2 loss to Kenya Police FC at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Sofapaka.
However, they registered a morale-boosting 2-1 win over FC Talanta last weekend at Dandora Stadium, a result that briefly lifted them from the foot of the table before their latest setback.
Posta Rangers will now aim to build on their encouraging performances and turn promising signs into tangible results as they fight to climb out of the relegation zone.
