According to a dispatch from the Cabinet on Tuesday evening,

«The cabinet was also briefed on the progress of the Talanta Hela Stadium at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, which is now 40% complete. Once finished, the 60,000-seater stadium will be Kenya’s largest, with the government aiming to complete it by the end of the year. This underscores its commitment to modernising sports infrastructure,» the communique stated.

The completion of , marking the first time in 45 years that a stadium of this magnitude has been built in Kenya.

The last such project was the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, which was constructed in 1981.

“The last time a stadium of this magnitude was built in Kenya was 45 years ago – Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani – making Talanta Hela a landmark achievement in the country’s sporting history,” the statement read.

Once completed, the stadium will be a central piece in Kenya’s preparations to co-host the alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

It will also provide a world-class venue for local and international football and rugby events, further strengthening Kenya’s sports tourism and competitive advantage.

The stadium has been exclusively designed for football and rugby, aligning with world-class standards.

It will feature cutting-edge facilities, including doping control rooms, medical rooms, VIP hospitality areas, and dedicated sections for TV and broadcast crews.

In addition, the stadium will be equipped with a floodlight capacity of at least 500 lux to allow for night games and will offer ample parking facilities to accommodate large crowds.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have been tasked with supervising the construction work, which is being undertaken by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a firm renowned for its expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects.

The construction of the stadium began in March 2023 following a groundbreaking ceremony led by President William Ruto.

“We are investing in the future of our youth by ensuring they have access to the best facilities. Talanta Hela Stadium will be a game-changer for our country,” he stated.
