South African winger Percy Tau has vowed to deliver for Al Ahly fans as his team prepares for a crucial showdown against fierce rivals Zamalek in the African Super Cup later this week.

Despite lingering uncertainty over his future with the Egyptian giants, Tau remains focused on creating more unforgettable moments with the club.

Tau, instrumental in Al Ahly’s recent dominance, played a key role in their 6-0 aggregate victory over Gor Mahia, securing their spot in the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League group stages.

Gor Mahia boss Leo Neiva has explained what he learnt about his side following their heavy thrashing at the hands of Al Ahly in the first leg of their CAF Second Preliminary encounter in Nairobi last Sunday.

His two goals in the first leg at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium highlighted his importance to the squad and eased rumors of a potential departure. With the Egyptian transfer window closing on September 30, Tau’s return to form has calmed speculation about his future.

However, questions about Tau’s long-term commitment to Al Ahly remain. Former Egyptian international Khaled El Ghadour hinted at ongoing negotiations between the club and the South African star, revealing that Al Ahly will make a decision on his future before January 2025. By then, Tau would be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club if his future in Cairo isn’t resolved.

«Al Ahly will decide on Percy Tau’s position or his departure before January according to what the player will offer the team during the next stage. After that, the Red Castle officials will make the final decision regarding the player’s future,» El Ghadour stated on Stadium’s television program.

The former Gor Mahia man was in impeccable form as Al Duhail sailed to a comfortable 5-1 win over Al Saad on Saturday night.

Despite the uncertainty, Tau appears determined to leave a lasting legacy at Al Ahly. Reflecting on his successful journey with the club, the former Brighton & Hove Albion forward expressed immense pride in the milestones he has achieved.

«The tenth title with this great club. It has been a journey full of hard work, dedication, and unforgettable moments,» Tau wrote on his account (formerly ).

Tau reassured fans on the club’s official page: «We will continue to work, and we still want more. We know that the fans also want that, and we will do that for them.»

He also emphasized the deep connection he shares with Al Ahly supporters: «I have a great relationship with Al Ahly fans. They supported me throughout last season when I was injured, and I am happy to play for this club.»

Gor Mahia's CAF Champions League exit has exposed internal challenges under coach Leonardo Neiva as focus shifts to domestic success.

With the African Super Cup final against Zamalek looming on September 27, Tau will be eager to put on another standout performance and prove his worth to both Al Ahly and the South African national team selectors.

Having been omitted from Bafana Bafana’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan earlier this month, a strong showing could pave the way for his return to international football.

Now settled at Al Ahly and seemingly regaining his form, Tau is ready to make an impact on both club and national levels as the football season intensifies.
