Referee Michael Oliver  was right to send off Leandro Trossard in Arsenal’s dramatic 2-2 draw at Manchester City, the Key Match Incidents panel has said.

The midfield was dismissed in the first-half injury time after kicking the ball away following a foul on Benardo Silva. It was the second time the Gunners have had a player dismissed for delaying the restart after Declan Rice was sent off in the 1-1 draw against Brighton earlier this month.

The panel, which reviews all key footballing decisions in the Premier League each week, wrote: «Trossard clearly delays the restart by kicking the ball away.

African football is rapidly growing with increased investment, emerging talent, and technological integration, but still faces challenges like infrastructure and financial disparities while continuing to gain global recognition and competitiveness.

«It was not unanimous though, and one panellist thought the «split-second nature of the kick away was enough of a mitigating factor».

Arsenal were 2-1 ahead at the Emirates Stadium at the time, but John Stones rescued a point for City in the 98th minute of second-half stoppage time to move them back to the top of the Premier League.

Sunday also saw the match pitting Brighton against Nottingham Forest recorded three red cards. Both managers were sent off alongside Morgan Gibbs-White, who was shown a second yellow card for a sliding challenge on Brighton’s Joao Pedro.

Tottenham's coach and captain both agreed that football nowadays is not about the quality but the quantity of games.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was dismissed by referee Rob Jones, who then also showed a red card to Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo for their reactions to the incident. Both sides remain unbeaten after five Premier League matches.
