KCB head coach Patrick Odhiambo has credited Francis Khairo’s impressive start to the season to his dedication to goal-scoring drills during training sessions.
Odhiambo’s remarks followed the Bankers’ 3-2 victory over Tusker FC last weekend at the St Sebastian Park in Murang’a.
Since returning from a six-month stint with Bandari FC, Khairo has emerged as a leading force in KCB’s attack, netting twice against Tusker to bring his tally to five goals this season. His efforts have seen him rise to the top of the FKF Premier League’s goal-scoring chart alongside Tusker’s Ryan Ogam.
In a recent interview with the club’s media team, Odhiambo, who led Kakamega Homeboyz to FKF Cup victory back in 2023, highlighted Khairo’s commitment in training as the secret behind his fine form. “Francis is a natural finisher,” Odhiambo stated. “He loves to score, and he spends a lot of time perfecting his finishing skills in training. When he misses a goal, he doesn’t feel satisfied, and that drive is showing in his games.”
The lanky striker hopes to find consistent game time this season after being given the nod to start against AFC Leopards as they won 1-0, which will enable him to find consistency.
The former Gor Mahia assistant coach expressed his delight over Khairo’s contributions, emphasizing how his consistent training has directly impacted KCB’s strong performances. The Bankers remain undefeated this season and sit comfortably atop the league standings with 17 points, five clear of second-placed Kariobangi Sharks.
“His constant finishing drills in training have evidently paid off on the field,” Odhiambo added. “I’m genuinely happy for him because his hard work is yielding results.”
With aspirations to secure KCB’s first FKF Premier League title, Odhiambo praised Khairo as a critical figure in their campaign. “He’s a vital member of the team and will play an essential role in our pursuit of the title. His scoring ability will be key to our success.”
Khairo, too, expressed satisfaction with his resurgence and shared his ambitions for the season. “It feels amazing to be performing at my best again. I believe I’m in the right mindset and hope to double my goal tally by season’s end,” he said.
With his recent performance and dedication to improvement, Khairo’s contributions could be pivotal in driving KCB towards a historic league title this season.
