Former Harambee Stars fullback Bob Oyugi has urged coach to stick with the tried and tested players for the Africa Cup of Nations must-win qualifiers against and.

Stars find themselves in a sticky situation after falling to third position in Group J with four points-four behind second-placed Zimbabwe.

Former Gor Mahia coach Bob Oyugi analyzes Harambee Stars' back-to-back defeats to Cameroon in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Group leaders have already booked their slot for the 2025 edition in with two matches to spare. The former Gor Mahia coach said Firat has gambled with the Harambee Stars squad in the qualifiers, using different squads that have failed to produce results.

“Sticking with one team is the best thing a coach needs to do but Firat has been doing it the other way round. Changing players in every match means they cannot have consistency and they will not be able to know how to play together,” Oyugi told

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has urged caution ahead of crucial 2025 AFCON qualifiers fixtures against Zimbabwe and Namibia, highlighting the two team's quality.

“We have gambled to the corner with different squads, and this is the reason we find ourselves fighting to earn the qualification ticket,” Oyugi added.

Oyugi said this is not the right time to hold discussion regarding Harambee Stars but affirmed that player stability is needed going forward if Kenya dreams of qualifying for big tournaments like the AFCON.

«Firat should navigate on how to beat both teams. It’s too late to continue discussing Harambee Stars,» he noted before adding, «Such tournaments need stability where players know and understand each other to form a strong team chemistry but it is unfortunate we have been seeing different starting XI at every given game. It can’t work like that if you indeed want to qualify.»
