As Kenya’s football fraternity gears up for a new dawn with the election of a new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president, the Kasarani Stadium has become the epicenter of change.
Delegates are voting for a leadership team that will steer the country’s football forward, with the fate of the sport resting in the hands of 90 bona fide voters.
Outgoing FKF President Nick Mwendwa has opted for a less prominent role this time, vying for the vice presidency under Doris Petra, who is contesting for the top position.
Apart from electing the president and deputy, the delegates are also choosing National Executive Committee (NEC) members from various regions, results of which are currently being unveiled.
NEC Election Results
The Coast Region NEC seat was clinched by Gabriel Mghendi, who secured 32 votes, surpassing Edward Oduor, Ericsson Kyongo, and Athman Mwamiri.
In Central, Robert Macharia, chairman of Murang’a Seal, won with 54 votes, defeating Gordon Davies, who garnered 35 votes, with one vote declared spoilt.
The Eastern Region saw Charles Njagi, chairman of National Super League side 3K FC, emerge victorious with 40 votes. His closest competitor, Joseph Mutwiri, secured 29 votes, while Elzaphan Mbogo trailed with 21 votes.
In the Lower Rift Valley, a tightly contested race ended with Peter Kamau narrowly defeating David Kipkorir, securing 47 votes against Kipkorir’s 42.
For the North Eastern Region, Mohammed Abba dominated the polls, collecting 63 votes to beat Abdulah Salat, who managed 27.
In the Nairobi region, AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda gathered 25 votes, narrowly edging out Michael Ouma and Issac Macharia on 23 and 22 votes respectively.James Masese finished a distant fourth, gathering 16 votes
