While toxicology reports showed no alcohol or illegal drugs in Maradona’s system at the time of his death, he had been taking medications for anxiety and depression.

Medical examiner Pablo Ferrari later suggested that his erratic heartbeat could have been caused by a natural condition or an ‘external factor,’ possibly a stimulant like cocaine.
