CAF president Patrice Motsepe has expressed his satisfaction at Kenya’s preparations for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are set to finally be confirmed as hosts for the tournament, which is played only by players featuring in African leagues, during the CAF Executive Committee Meeting being held in Nairobi on Monday.

Motsepe visited Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums as well as the Talanta Sports City, which is under contraction, to check on the progress of preparations and gave it a clean bill of health, a major boost for Kenya and the region.

Nairobi will this morning host a crucial CAF Executive Committee meeting potentially shaping the future of African football events.

“The CHAN attracts a lot of media coverage in Africa and also globally and the good thing is that we couldn’t have chosen a better country with Tanzania and Uganda,” Motsepe told the media.

“I am confident that this CHAN will be the most successful CHAN in the history of this competition both on the field as well as the media coverage and the interest we are expecting in Africa but also globally.

“So, I will be coming back again, there is a lot of engagement that will be going on between CAF and Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.”

Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Neiva criticized his team's defensive errors after a tough loss to Al Ahly in CAF Champions League.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reiterated the government’s commitment in ensuring the stadiums are ready on time with renovation work at Kasarani set to be completed at the end of the year.

“We know that you are putting us under pressure but it is for our personal good to make us ready to host the CHAN tournament and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations,” said Murkomen.

“This stadium will be delivered to you by the end of November and every effort is being spent to make sure this place is ready. I am personally in constant communication with the officers on the ground because the President is on my neck to make sure we are ready.”

The 2025 CHAN tournament is projected to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, after the original dates in September 2023 were scrapped due to scheduling conflicts and inadequate stadium infrastructure.
