The Salary Remuneration Commission (SRC) has distanced itself from Harambee Stars’ newly-appointed coach Benni McCarthy’s salary payment.
Head of Communications, Media & PR, Jeff Kinyanjui, had previously announced that Benni McCarthy’s salary would be covered by the SRC. However, uncertainty now looms over the situation.
Jeff Kinyanjui had cleared the air over the false reports that would be paid Ksh 8 million monthly and he categorically stated that the FKF has nothing to do with that and the government will be the one to decide what the South African will be earning.

Djed Spence's continued absence from the England national team had seen the Tottenham Hotspur defender linked with a switch of allegiance to Kenya's Harambee Stars.
“The coach’s salary is paid by the government and falls under the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines. Even the entire technical bench does not earn such an amount collectively,” Jeff Kinyanjui shared in a post on his handle.
“Let’s uphold responsible reporting and avoid misleading the public. Spreading misinformation not only misguides fans but also distracts from the real work of supporting our national team. Let’s focus on facts and back the team constructively.”

The source further clarified that their organisation is not involved in handling salaries for other sports federations in Kenya, and the Harambee Stars would be no exception.
This raises further questions about the funding and financial planning surrounding potential appointment.
“I have consulted, and there is no such issue. SRC has never had an arrangement to pay national team coaches as civil servants. If this were done for Harambee Stars, other federations would also demand the same,” the source said as per

“If McCarthy is being paid, it could only be through FKF or an arrangement with the Ministry of Sports but not through SRC. This issue does not fall under our guidelines.”
As things stand, there is no clear way on how Benni McCarthy and his technical bench’s salary will be paid.

This issue also raises eyebrows since former Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat also complained about unpaid salary arrears, reportedly for 10 months.
Former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and Kipchumba Murkomen have openly criticized such issues, and as Kenyans await answers, they hope history will not repeat itself.
