goalkeeper has come out to clear the air on his woeful performance in last season’s Mashemeji derby between FKF Premier League giants and .
Opiyo, who has been on the losing end twice while featuring in two draws and only one win against the defending champions, has attributed his woeful performance in recent derbies to ‘dark forces’ being at play during the high-profile match.
Speaking on the , Opiyo alluded that the derby matches are not usually played on the pitch.
“I do not want make excuses, but these games are usually not played on the pitch. They are played outside pitch and myself this time I want to do the same,” said Opiyo hinting at taking measures of his own.
The former K’Ogalo shot stopper delved into what his mental, physical and mental state is usually like.
Although AFC Leopards beat Bidco 1-0 in Thika, the laughable state of the ground made it difficult for them to play as they ideally wanted.
“When I enter the pitch, my body is fatigued, and it only happens during the derby. Even when I am warming up feel so exhausted.”
Opiyo has, however, vowed to rectify the mistakes for Leopards in upcoming Mashemeji derbies
“I know there is guy there (at Gor Mahia). I have already figured out his antics and I’ll be ready for this time. Gor must lose,” assured Opiyo.
