After battling a niggling injury that saw him fail to defend his title at the 2023 New York City Marathon, went to the 2024 edition of the race with the hope of reclaiming his title but was outsprinted by Dutchman Abdi Nageeye.
The 2022 Boston Marathon champion was forced to settle for second place in a time of 2:07:45 as claimed the win in 2:07:39. rounded up the podium in 2:08:00 as reigning Olympic champion and defending champion Tamirat Tola finished distant fourth in 2:08:12.

Evans Chebet did most of the work throughout the race but Abdi Nageeye, who was coming out of a disappointing Paris 2024 , meant business when he surged to the front and took the win. Abdi Nageeye failed to finish the race at the Olympic Games.
Reacting to his performance, Evans Chebet promised to return in next year’s edition with high hopes of reclaiming his title.

This season, started his season with a third-place finish at the Boston Marathon, clocking 2:07:22. The Kenyan distance sensation then raced at the Great North Run, clocking 1:02:31 to round up the podium. He capped off his season with a second-place finish in the streets of New York.
Last season was a disaster for who started off with a win at the Boston Marathon in a time of 2:05:54 but an injury setback would see him end his season there.
