'That was my biggest worry' — Noah Lyles reflects on his greatest fear after testing positive for COVID at Paris Olympics

Speaking in their newly unveiled podcast with and Noah Lyles revealed he had some fears going into the race. You might be wondering what was bothering the Olympic 100m champion despite the pre-race stunts he did before getting to the blocks.

revealed that the medication took a lot of energy from him and he was unsure if he would make it past the semifinal. Luckily, he managed to finish second behind in the semifinal and proceed to the final.

As the gun went off in the final, revealed that he did not know what happened as everything blacked out and he just found himself crossing the finish line. He says he gave it his all even though he did not win.

“I was just there, taking vitamins and nutrition while hoping for the best. Throughout the whole process, the biggest issue was energy, like I would go into moments where I felt like I was on top of the world and then my energy just plummeted…that was my biggest worry. I went through the semifinal and I was worried that I would not go through it and somehow I did but I was so low on energy,” Lyles shared.

He added that after being diagnosed with COVID, he had to be put on very expensive medication. The three-time world 200m revealed that he had never taken the medicine before.

noted that, however, to be ready for the 200m, he had to be fit at least and the only way to get there would be by taking the medicine. He was assured that after about five days, he would start feeling better but the medicine took a huge toll on his energy.

“After I got Covid, they put me in isolation and suggested to put me on medication as fast as possible. So, I’ve never taken the medication…first of all, I figured out that this thing is $1500, that’s a lot of money,” Noah Lyles said.

“I took it all, the medicine and they said it would work after five days like it would cut how long you have COVID into half. I was like five days isn’t enough time but they said it would help dial the symptoms back.”
