Noah Lyles’ mother, Keisha Caine Bishop, has revealed the mantra in her household that has enabled her family to always bounce back even in the face of adversity.
Caine Bishop disclosed that the ‘BBA’, ‘bounce back ability’, is a mantra she came up with after her divorce. Speaking in an interview with Olympics.com, she explained that since then, the mantra has been a part of her household.
She explained that the struggle of bouncing back after a divorce was tough but she managed to get back up on her feet and raise Lyles and his younger brother Josephus into strong men. Caine Bishop added that at the time, her friend asked if she was okay and at that moment, she was not but she knew things would change for the better.
The former Olympic champion opened up on what might have cost Kishane Thompson a win over Noah Lyles in the men's 100m race at the Paris Olympic Games.
«In our house, we call it ‘BBA,’ bounce back ability. The answer was ‘no.’ But I told her, ‘I will be.’ Because by then I knew if I built it once, I could build it again. So I think as a family, just overcoming adversity and knowing yeah, BBA, bounce back ability. We can do it,» she said.
The three-time world 200m champion has showcased a great sense of resilience which he got from his mother. The 27-year-old managed to bounce back from COVID-19 to claim a bronze medal in the men’s 200m at the Paris Olympic Games.
The triple world champion was eyeing the same feat at the Paris Olympic Games but could not live up to the billing after testing positive for COVID. He was off to a great start, winning the men’s 100m final before faltering in the 200m. He did not compete in the men’s 4x100m relay.
«It’s really amazing to see the growth and the transition and his willingness to persevere through adversity. And I think that’s why he’s really comfortable with just being himself. I think the personal growth is the biggest difference,» Caine Bishop said of the Lyles.
Noah Lyles has penned a lengthy message rallying behind his girlfriend Junelle Bromfield following attacks from Jamaicans, as he singled out why God keeps blessing her.
