Three-time world champion Christian Coleman has opened up about taking a different approach next season as he looks to bounce back to winning ways.

The American has not enjoyed the greatest of seasons in 2024 and he will be keen to get back to where he belongs. His main focus this season was to make the Paris Olympics team in at least one individual race but finished fourth in the 100m and 200m at the US Olympic trials.

Coleman was then selected in the 4x100m relay squad but Team USA was disqualified after faulty baton exchanges. He went on to finish second at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels, failing to defend his title.

Fred Kerley has supported Letsile Tebogo in pleading with World Athletics to bring back an athletics competition that was done away with in 2020.

Speaking to after the race, Coleman noted that he will certainly be looking to change some things come next season, with the World Indoor Championships and the World Championships being among the events in his cards.

“I would say to be determined, we talked about it a little bit but we’ll see how things go in the next few months…I think the big plan for me, or the big goal for me is just…I feel like I have been in the highest highs of the sport and the lowest lows and for me, putting it all out together and reaching my goals that I know I’m capable of achieving,” Coleman said.

“I want to maximize my full talent and ability while I still have it right now, so, I don’t know, no specific goals looking into next season just yet but I just want to be at my best. I know I haven’t been performing the way I’m capable of, so just putting it all out together is the main thing for next season,” he added.

Speaking about lowering his 60m world record time next season, the 28-year-old added that he would have to discuss it with his new coach Dennis Mitchell but explained that he would love to improve that.

He now takes a break with the hope of organising stuff in his life before resuming training for next season where he hopes to make an impact.

“I can’t necessarily say what to expect, you know talking with Dennis and just keeping an open mind and making sure I relax this off-season, get everything organised and in order so that when we start up, it’s time to go,” he said.

The 22-year-old was impressive in his final race of the season, healing his Paris Olympics heartbreak with a triumph over Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Akani Simbine and other top sprinters.
