Milcah Chemos’ star had started shining before a deadly injury plagued her career, forcing her to put an unprecedented end to her already glittering career.

When people hear of Chemos, they think of the first Kenyan woman to claim the coveted 3000m steeplechase title at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow. The gold medal came after she had claimed two silver medals over the distance at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships held in Berlin and Daegu respectively.

She also claimed an Olympic bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games and won the Commonwealth Games gold medal in 2010 in Delhi and a silver in 2014 in Glasgow. She was primed to continue dominating but a waist injury slowed her down.

Fred Kerley has supported Letsile Tebogo in pleading with World Athletics to bring back an athletics competition that was done away with in 2020.

Speaking during an interview on the show with Oga Obinna, Chemos recounted the time she got an injury and how she was forced to travel to India for treatment since the pain was unbearable.

“I stopped running due to an injury…a waist injury. I had an issue with my nerves, so it was a recurring issue and I had to stop. It was very painful and I had to travel to India for an operation. The last time I raced was in 2016 October after sitting at home for like two years,” she said.

Chemos was out for close to two years, not racing the whole of 2015 and returning to the track in 2016. At the time, she competed in the 10km road race at the Utrecht Singelloop where she finished third before her sixth-place finish in the four miles road race at the Groningen 4 Miles.

After her performance in 2016, Chemos disclosed that she knew it would be difficult to go back to the top and she decided to hang her spikes then.

Faith Kipyegon is not done with her season yet despite her dominant exploits at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels where she claimed her fifth trophy.

“When I came back, I realised I could not run like I used to and decided to just quit. I’m very much okay at the moment because I was treated. However, I can’t run competitively at the moment, just the slight jogs,” she added.
