The marathon champion has finally disclosed how she readies herself for renowned races like the annual New York City marathon.

The 30-year-old, who relocated to the US in 2015 and won the New York City marathon on her debut, said she spends time training in higher altitudes to fully prepare her body for the trials and tribulations of running 26.2 miles.

Triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas will be at the New York City Marathon scheduled for Sunday, November 3, seeking to offer support to the participants in the event.

“Training for the NYC Marathon requires such a commitment, both mentally and physically. I spend a lot of time at altitude, training in Flagstaff and Kenya, where I focus on both endurance and speed. Long runs, speed work, and strength training are key parts of my routine, but so is mental preparation,” she told the .

Former New York City marathon champion Sharon Lokedi spent most of last season plotting for her biggest test yet, running the Olympic marathon course

The 2018 10,000m winner at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, presumed that racing shoes have become a vital component in the competition, not only for boosting confidence but also providing comfort to some of the gruesome courses.

“Under Armour’s Velociti Elite racing shoes have become crucial to my training. I know I can rely on them for comfort and performance over those long miles. That gives me confidence as I push myself harder each day,” she maintained.

On top of the physical demands of running a long race, Lokedi takes the time to make sure she is mentally ready to take on a marathon-sized race. “There are definitely mental challenges in a marathon, especially around those later miles when your body wants to give up, and it’s easy to doubt if you can make it to the finish line. I remind myself that I’ve trained for this moment and have overcome difficult situations in both training and past races,” said Lokedi.
