Triple Olympics champion Thomas has weighed in on how athletes are having to be boxed in a corner over what they should eat for fear of being harshly judged by fans.

Thomas says it is okay for athletes to have a sweet treat, as long as they get the balance right, but many have been called out when they are seen eating sugary stuff which is considered unhealthy for an athlete.

“One of the funniest parts of being a professional athlete is that any time I eat something, that is not chicken breast and veggies people are like [surprised],” said on TikTok.

American sprint queen Gabby Thomas has waited for three months before serving her revenge at a hater who wished her failure at the Paris Olympics to the delight of fans.

“And when I post a picture of ice cream in a corner people are like: ‘Gabby you have to run, put that down.’ And I am like I mean I can eat it and I am still okay. Like yes, I get it and athletes have to eat clean and I do eat clean, I all get my nutrients and I take my multivitamins and all the things.

“But your favorite runner loves a sweet treat. I don’t know any athlete who doesn’t love a sweet treat. I don’t know any runner who doesn’t love a cheek meal and for me my cheek meals are like multiple times a week.”

The American sprinter then went on to reveal how she has gotten hooked to eating gummy candy that she cannot sleep without indulging in her favourite sweet treat.

Gabby Thomas has risen as a sprinting powerhouse, capturing three Olympic golds and inspiring with her disciplined approach, relentless drive and ambitious goals, including aiming for the legendary 200m world record.

“I don’t know how I would do my job without eating gummy candy every night before I go to sleep. I don’t know how. It’s all about balance, baby,” she added.

Thomas won Olympics gold in 200m at the Paris 2024 Games before helping deliver gold for the United States in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays to become the first American woman to win three Olympics gold in a single edition since Allyson in 2012.

Given what was witnessed in Paris, where she was so dominant in her races, it seems her sweet treat is working wonders.

St Lucia's Julien Alfred has credited the grounding she received in Jamaica for her athletics prowess that yielded historic Olympics medals this year.
