Former Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has opened up about what went wrong at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome, Italy.

Competing on home soil, Jacobs was a favourite to have a great bounce back after finishing fourth at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia. However, he failed to impress, finishing ninth in a time of 10.20 seconds.

The race was won by Letsile Tebogo, who clocked a stunning 9.87 seconds to cross the finish line as Christian Coleman came in second in a time of 9.92 seconds. Freed Kerley completed the podium in a time of 9.95 seconds.

Marcell Jacobs has reflected on the tactical errors he made that made him lose his Olympic 100m crown to Noah Lyles in Paris and revealed how he plans to attack his races as he prepares for next season.

After the race, Jacobs noted that he was exhausted and could not deliver as home fans expected. He was hoping to achieve a podium bracket but claimed that the race did not turn out as he expected but he did not want to risk getting another injury.

«I arrived here quite tired, I am really tired. My legs said ‘no’ today. But the crowd was really amazing. Tonight, I could not run faster than that.,” Jacobs said.

“The race was not how I wanted it to be and I also did not want to risk an injury. I had muscular tensions. in my legs. I am not happy about this result, but it was really great to run here in Rome, in front of this wonderful home crowd,” he added.

Olympics champion Letsile Tebogo has shared the destinations that he feels will give him a well earned rest after an impressive 2024 campaign.

He is looking forward to racing at the Diamond League Meeting in Brussels before calling it and season and heading to vacation with his family. Jacobs has not had quite a great 2024 season but will be looking to bounce back in 2025.

“I hope to recover because I have another competition in Bellinzona. After that, I will go on a holiday with family to Hawaii. And then a new season will come,” he added.
