«It’s week four, so they’re at the worst part of the training cycle. Their bodies are tired, but this is exactly what they need to challenge themselves, it’s perfect,» said Buford-Bailey, describing the rigorous workout
The session prioritized maintaining proper mechanics, building volume, and fostering a competitive spirit among the athletes
The coach emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying, «I’m not timing the runs at all. It’s about working with their partner, pushing each other, and aiming for about 85% effort.»
The workout, designed by legendary coach Gary Winkler, is a staple among elite sprinters
«This is a Gary Winkler workout. I didn’t come up with this one. I used to do this when I was running, but we would only do two sets. I just added a third set,» Buford-Bailey explained
The session involves a unique structure where athletes complete one lap, returning to their starting point after a grueling circuit
«It’s so cool because you end up right where you started. It’s just one lap, so it’s perfect,» she added
Despite not being a straight-A student as she says people perceive, Thomas managed to get into the prestigious Harvard University without a scholarship.
