The 2025 World Athletics may be eight months away but the host city is not resting on its laurels when it comes to preparations for the event.
Tokyo, the Japanese capital city, will play host to the 20th edition of the from September 13-21 and already, the official motto and visual identity have been unveiled.
Of much interest is the official motto; ‘Every second, SUGOI’ which has a deeper meaning.
What does ‘Every second, SUGOI’ mean?
SUGOI is a Japanese word for amazing, extraordinary and the motto combines English words and those of the host country in a historic first for the championships.
As per “the official motto, ‘Every second, SUGOI’, carries a powerful message—one that aspires to make the Japanese word ‘SUGOI’ (amazing, extraordinary) a global expression of awe and inspiration.”
The aims to make people from around the world embrace and feel the amazing and extraordinary spirit of the Japanese throughout the event.
“Every second, SUGOI’ signifies that every moment of this year’s Championships, from start to finish, will be extraordinary, creating an event where the spirit of ‘SUGOI’ resonates with everyone,” describes World Athletics.
“With this, WCH Tokyo 25 is envisioned as a platform for people across the world to unite with Tokyo and Japan through the universal language of athletics.”
Japan hosting third World Championships
This will be the the World Championships is being held in Japan after the 2007 edition in Osaka and the 1991 in Tokyo.
The 2025 World Championships will be held at the rebuilt National Stadium in Tokyo which hosted the delayed 2020 Olympics and Paralympics Games.
