Athletics Kenya (AK) is making significant strides in its preparations for the highly anticipated third leg of the Cross-Country Meet series, set to take place in Iten.

Following the successful organization of two earlier meets, the national and North Rift Regional office is eager to build on this momentum as the 2024/25 season unfolds.

The first leg of the series gunned off on October 19 at Machakos Teachers Training College where seasoned athletes braced for a showdown.

In a thrilling women’s 10km race, Maureen Jepkoech clinched the title, displaying remarkable speed as she out-sprinted Christine Njoki in the final kilometer.

Jepkoech on Saturday clinched her second Cross-country victory at Kapsokwony Secondary school having already won the first leg in Machakos Teachers College last weekend.

Esther Chemutai settled for third place, rounding off the podium finishes, securing the bronze medal.

The men’s field saw Asbel Kiprono dominate the by clinching victory ahead of Francis Abong and Victor Kiprop in second and the third places respectively.

The second meet followed closely on October 26 at Kapsokwony Secondary School, where the men’s 10km saw Edwin Bett claim victory.

He was followed by Simon Maywa in second and Naibei Kiplimo in third in a thrilling second leg showdown.

The women’s 10km race saw Jepkoech dominate with back-to-back victories having already won in the first leg of the series in

Jepkoech out sprinted Catherine Reline to win her second Cross-Country Meet as Delvine Relin Meringor finished third.

Maureen Jepkoech and Edwin Bett claimed victory in the senior races at the Athletics Kenya Cross Country meet in Kapsokwony, while Andrew Alamisi and Dorcas Jepkwemoi topped the U-20 categories.

As attention now shifts to Iten for the third leg, excitement is building among athletes and fans alike.

Following the meet, the series will continue in Bomet, where the fourth leg is scheduled for November 30.

With a strong start to the season, is poised to maintain its momentum in cross-country running as it prepares for the upcoming events like the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics championships.
