has shed light on a key obstacle that has kept him from participating in Michael Johnson’s inaugural Grand Slam Track series.

Simbine, who recently secured his first individual medal is determined to transition from perennial finalist to consistent podium finisher.

Over the years, the South African sprinter has narrowly missed out on medals in several major events, finishing just outside the podium in the 100m finals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, 2021 Tokyo Olympics

Mohammed Bajaber proved that he is not all hype when he tormented Posta Rangers before firing Kenya Police to a crucial league victory on Sunday.

Despite his remarkable speed and talent, these near-misses have left Simbine yearning for a breakthrough moment that would cement his place among the world’s elite sprinters.

That moment finally arrived at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he anchored South Africa’s 4x100m relay team to a historic silver medal.

As he gears up for the outdoor season, where he aims to clinch a medal in the 100 meters at the Tokyo World Championships, Simbine has explained

«No, it’s too much travel time to America. It’s very far for us to get there, so we’d rather just stay on the European side and do the China meets.

Benni McCarthy is determined to transform Harambee Stars into a dominant force in African football ahead of the upcoming CHAN tournament.

«If I’m doing China, then I’d have to go back to the U.S., and it’s a lot of travel. Coach doesn’t want us traveling that much, so we decided to just stick to the normal circuit, the usual league, and keep going.»

He also pointed out financial constraints as a major deterrent.

«It’s a big issue, man, because if it’s American-based, then for us, it doesn’t make sense. We’d have to stay in America for two or three months, and cost-wise, who’s going to cover that?

“ It becomes an expense we can’t even afford. America is an expensive country. I think if it moves around the world, it gives us more opportunities to also join in on that side.»

Over the years, many notable players have been eligible to play for Kenya's Harambee Stars and other nations as well, with some opting for the latter.

Looking ahead, Simbine remains focused on his immediate schedule.

«I just know next month and May I have China Diamond League—both legs that I’m going to be doing—and then we’ll see from there.

«From June, we’ll see, but for now, it’s just about preparing and getting ourselves ready. Just keep on building for the rest of the season.»

Launched in 2025, the Grand Slam Track series will feature four high-profile meets—dubbed "Slams"—held in Kingston, Miami, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.

Athletes will compete in six event categories, including short sprints (100m, 200m) and long-distance races (3,000m, 5,000m).

With points awarded across two disciplines per category, the league will crown Slam champions and offer a total prize pool of $12.6 million, including $100,000 for each category winner.

The league has already attracted top global talents such as , and Gabby Thomas.
