The queen of the 1500m has had a fantastic season in 2024 and meeting American singer and rapper Megan Thee Stallion in New York City was one of her most memorable moments.
The three-time world 1500m champion explained that she had only been seeing Megan Thee Stallion and finally getting a chance to have a one-on-one conversation with her was breathtaking and it was her best moment.
further noted that it was her first time in New York and she had a great experience, with her being crowned as the 1500m queen after winning the race at Alex Ohanian’s Athlos, the women-only event held at the iconic Icahn Stadium.
Puerto Rican sprinter Jasmine Camacho-Quinn has hit out at organissrs of track and field events for not taking athletes seriously given the low amount of money they earn at various meets.
“This was my first trip to New York and I really enjoyed it and getting my crown as the 1500m queen. It was really amazing meeting her because I have only been seeing her on social media and today was my best moment. I don’t know her music but I normally see her on social media,” an excited Faith Kipyegon told the media after the race.
added that at Athlos, they were pampered with facebeats and did video and photo shoots on the eve of the race day, something she has never witnessed at the Diamond League Meetings or the World Athletics Championships.
The three-time Olympic champion noted that there was no pressure to compete and the atmosphere in the stadium was breathtaking and she admitted to having really enjoyed the experience.
“They were doing makeup and I have never done makeup before a race but before the race, we did makeup and we were doing photo and video shoots. After that, I asked myself if I would race the next day so it was totally different from the Diamond Leagues and whatnot. I absolutely enjoyed it. We were just enjoying every moment we came across and then today again, during the competition, it was perfect,” Kipyegon added.
