Remarkable progress has been made as Kenya’s Harambee Stars prepare to face Gabon in their fifth 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on March 24, 2025. 

This fixture marks a significant moment for Kenyan football, being the Stars’ first home game in nearly a year and a crucial test event for theset to begin on August 2, 2025.

The most notable advancement is the near-completion of floodlight installations. Two poles have already been fully mounted on the East stand, while work with the poles on the West stand is well underway.

This development ensures the stadium’s readiness for evening matches. Other upgrades , further enhancing the venue’s aesthetics.

Additionally, renovations have focused on creating a world-class experience for fans and players. Steps leading to the lower, middle, and upper terraces have been painted yellow, complementing the stadium’s seating, which reflects the colors of Kenya’s national flag.

The parking area has been revamped with new paving blocks, marked for ease of access, while broken glass walls at the VIP entrance have been replaced. The tunnel to the changing rooms has been upgraded with a new canopy and green carpeting.

The VIP area now features significant enhancements, including a new media center designed to accommodate hundreds of journalists and an additional section for cameramen beneath the roof.

 Adjacent to the VIP walkway, a flower bed adds beauty to the surroundings. On the field, the pitch is nearly ready for use, with only minor touch-ups near the touchline remaining. Movable goalposts and electronic advertising boards are ready to be installed ahead of CHAN.

These renovations follow the stadium’s inability to host the 96th Mashemeji Derby due to ongoing upgrades.

 However, with the current progress, Nyayo Stadium is on track to meet international standards and provide a fitting stage for Kenya’s World Cup qualifying campaign and upcoming continental tournaments.
