Faith Kipyegon’s track rival has made a bold coaching move with the hope of rising to the top once again in the 2025 season.

Laura Muir was a threat to chances of dominating the 1500m but has since struggled to make an impact on the global stage with her deteriorating performance.

The former Olympic 1500m silver started facing her struggles in 2023 where she finished a distant sixth in the 1500m as Faith Kipyegon won the race. Muir had finished third at the 2022 in Eugene, Oregon.

Elaine Thompson-Herah has been a victim of injuries and at one point in her career, she felt like there was no need to keep trying.

In 2024, the trend continued as she finished distant fifth in the 1500m final at the . She was hoping to improve on her silver medal finish at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games but things did not go as a planned.

She started her season with the indoor tour and competed in the 3000m at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland where she finished fifth.

She has since announced the coaching changes she has made, hoping that the move will propel her to greater heights and she will be able to make up for the things she has lost in the past seasons.

“Really excited to announce that I am being coached by Steve Cram and Laura Weightman. Two truly inspiring people, both of which I have been fortunate to know for over a decade,” Laura Muir said in a post on her Instagram page.

“Steve, someone who has commentated on practically every major race of my career, coached Laura W and ran pretty well himself over 1500m and Laura an amazing competitor and dear friend who I raced and trained alongside for many a year.

“We have a few 1500m championship medals between us! A massive thank you to my previous coach Steve Vernon who supported me in 2023/2024. Good luck with your new ventures! Something about Laura’s and Steve’s that just work, and yes it’s confusing already with Laura².”

The three-time Olympic champion pointed out one weakness that Sha'Carri Richardson needs to work on ahead of the 2025 World Championships.

After the , Laura Muir did not compete in any other race and has yet to start her 2025 season but with the change she has made, fans are excited to see what is in store for the 31-year-old.
