AFC Leopards wonderkid Kelly Madada has set his sights on earning a call-up to the Harambee Stars in 2025, drawing inspiration from teammate Hassan Beja. The 18-year-old rising star has been delivering standout performances, including a remarkable league debut earlier this month, where he registered two assists in Leopards’ 4-1 triumph over Tusker at Dandora Stadium.
Before his impressive start against Tusker, Madada had been limited to cameo appearances, despite fans urging the technical bench to give him more playing time. When the opportunity finally came, the youngster seized it, shining against a Tusker side that had been riding high on a four-game winning streak.
Madada’s contributions on the pitch reflect his potential, which he showcased with the national U20 team, the Rising Stars. His performances were instrumental in securing Kenya’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after finishing second in the CECAFA qualifiers.

“I wish to secure my first call-up to the senior team next year. I am counting on my hard work and performances at the club to propel me to the team,» Madada shared.
Madada credits his motivation to teammate Hassan Beja, whose rise to prominence serves as a blueprint for young players aspiring to join the senior national team. Beja has been a pivotal figure for the Rising Stars and the Emerging Stars (U23), impressing in the COSAFA Cup held in South Africa last June.
“If my friend and teammate Beja has done it, I believe I can also make it,” Madada added.
Beja’s strong partnership with Vincent Mahiga on AFC Leopards’ left flank was a highlight last season. However, a foot injury sustained during the CECAFA Championship final has sidelined him temporarily, leaving Madada eager to fill the void and emulate his mentor’s success.

Madada’s ambitions are clear: to follow in Beja’s footsteps and make his senior debut during the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The Harambee Stars are set to face The Gambia away in March 2025 before hosting Gabon, providing a platform for new talent to emerge.
The young midfielder, who gained national attention during his school days at Shanderema Secondary School, is determined to make a lasting impact both at the club and international levels.
“Hard work and belief are what I’m counting on to get there,” he said confidently.
With Madada’s impressive trajectory and Beja’s inspiring path, AFC Leopards’ youthful talents are proving to be a promising foundation for Kenya’s football future.
