Reigning Olympic 800m champion did not have an easy time growing up and she has shared one major reason why.
In her teens, had to pause her athletics career for a while due to a non-cancerous tumour. If it went unnoticed, the Briton talent would be deaf by now, as reported by
revealed that the tumour had grown for years without being noticed and by the time it was being removed, it was a very risky affair. The tumour is one of the many things that many of her fans do not know about.
Keely Hodgkinson has made her feelings known about Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track League.
“It had grown for 10 years and no one had spotted it. And it was so close to my nervous system that I could have had facial palsy if it had touched the nerve. So it was a bit risky getting it out,” Keely Hodgkinson revealed.
She is just fresh from winning the of the Year award, thanks to her impressive season that saw her go unbeaten in the 800m this season. She started by defending her then after a series of races including the Prefontaine Classic before heading to the Paris Olympic Games.
In Paris, Keely Hodgkinson was no fluke as she started her campaign with wins in the heats and then to the semifinal before she meant business in the final. She beat Ethiopia’s and reigning world champion to second and third places respectively.

Winning the award and having a great 2024 season has made her more confident in her goals and as she looks to make an impact next season, the , indoor and outdoor are in the cards.
“I’m not afraid to put my goals out there. I’m pretty close (to the world record), I would like to think. I have seen this year what my body is capable of and I’m excited to push on,” Hodgkinson said.
«That world record is something I will always have in the back of my head. But I have so many years to get stronger so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens,” she added.
