Chirchir boasts a personal best 0f 2:22:11 she managed in April this year in Daegu, Korea where she finished third. Known for her persistence, Chirchir will likely give 2022 Valencia marathon winner Amane Beriso a run for her money. The Ethiopian is the pre-race favourite and will attempt to improve her course record.
Beriso hit the headlines in Valencia two years ago when she won in a course record of 2:14:58, which at the time was the third-fastest performance in history. She went on to win the world title in Budapest in 2023, then placed third at this year’s Tokyo Marathon in 2:16:58 before finishing fifth at the Olympic Games in Paris.
