Julien Alfred’s coach has explained why he does not have much faith in talent as he revealed the kind of athlete the Olympic champion is.

Speaking with on an Instagram live, Edrick Floreal revealed that many athletes have struggled to make an impact despite their tons of talent and lauded Julien Alfred for always putting in the work despite being somewhat talented.

The veteran coach revealed that during his time, many talented athletes struggled to achieve their goals and some were even forced into early retirement due to a lack of proper management of their talents.

After beating IShowSpeed in a 50m race, Noah Lyles declined a rematch, urging the 21-year-old to train for the US trials instead while he headed home to his fiancée and $100,000 prize.

He pointed out thatincorporates hard work in everything she does and the fruits are being seen at the moment. Edrick Floreal revealed that her times from high school have greatly improved and she continues to do better.

“Talent is highly overrated, I’ve had some athletes who are significantly more gifted than Julien and they are either retired or they never accomplished their dreams. To me, I don’t really care…there’s a book called ‘Talent is Overrated’ and the book talks about the difference between great performers and others and it undermined that talent is not the key and clearly it is not the key,” Edrick Floreal said.

“When you look at where Julien started, her PR in high school, you can compare that with 100 girls and Julien would be 99 and if you look at that person who becomes the Olympic champion and look at the transformation throughout the years, and when you look at her running mechanism, her execution. I would say 40% talent and 60% hard work.”

This season has been a success for the St. Lucia athlete who claimed the 100m Olympic gold medal and won a silver in the women’s 200m at the Julien Alfred also capped off her season with the Diamond Trophy at the final in Brussels.

also agreed with her coach, noting that she has always been consistent in putting in the work despite having the talent.
