Team USA’s Olympic gold medalist has recently opened up about a near mishap during the baton exchange with in the women’s 4x400m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics games
Although the exchange appeared seamless from the stands, Thomas revealed the tension behind the scenes that almost derailed their momentum
Thomas, who ran the third leg of the relay, shared that she hadn’t had a chance to practice the baton exchange with McLaughlin-Levrone before the race

However, the speed at which McLaughlin-Levrone approached Thomas nearly overwhelmed the sprinter
“She came in so, so hot the distance almost ran me over,» Thomas described
Despite the close call, the duo managed to recover, ensuring a clean handover that allowed Thomas to maintain the lead with a 49.30 split
